The Speciality Coffee Association of Southern Africa’s National Coffee Competition took place this past weekend (21 – 24 February) at the Ballito Lifestyle Centre in KwaZulu-Natal. Coffee aficionados from across South Africa competed in Latte Art, Cup Tasting and Barista events. It was a hard fought competition notwithstanding the terrible heat with competitors, judges and onlookers trying to stay cool.

Congratulations to Thabang Maluleka and Christopher Abrahams who are both from Ciro Beverage Solutions for winning the Cup Tasters and the Latte Art. They will be competing at Berlin WCC’s ‘World Of Coffee’ 6-8 June.
The new South African Barista Champion for 2019 is ……. Harry Mole from Tribeca Coffee Company. He will be heading to Boston USA, to compete at the World Coffee Championships’ (WCC) ‘Specialty Coffee Expo’ 11-14 April.
Other prize winners at the championship were Khulekani Mpala of Wiesenhof Coffee who took home the prize of Best Technical & Best Signature Drink, Ishan Natalie of Starbucks for the Best Milk Beverage and Neil Gouws of Origin Coffee Roasters for Best Espresso.
